NYC Vote to Curb Stop-and-Frisk Is Another Win for Civil Rights

NYC Vote to Curb Stop-and-Frisk Is Another Win for Civil Rights | Alternet:

"Today is a new day for New York City. The move reflects a growing alarm over NYPD policies and practices that violate the rights of thousands of New Yorkers and undermine police-community relationships – practices such as the discriminatory use of stop-and-frisk that waste valuable public dollars, while producing no measurable impact on public safety."

Teapublicans are crapping on America once again. I often wonder why people vote for Teapublicans when Teapublicans are continually demonstrating their complete disregard for the people of this country. The only thing I can think of as an answer to that question is that FAUX news and other right wing "news" sources are very adept at their brainwashing techniques.

American Troop Suicides Pass American War Deaths

The suicide rate among the nation’s active-duty military personnel has spiked this year, eclipsing the number of troops dying in battle and on pace to set a record annual high since the start of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan more than a decade ago, the Pentagon said Friday.
The number of suicide deaths in the U.S. military surged to a record 349 last year — more than the 295 Americans who died fighting in Afghanistan in 2012. The numbers were first reported by the AP; NPR has confirmed them.
The new figures show that the number of military suicides rose from 2011, when 301 such deaths were reported. And people who work with veterans say the numbers could grow worse, as returning soldiers adjust to civilian life.

No Benghazi "Stand Down" Order Was Given: Another Fox Narrative Falls Apart | Blog | Media Matters for America

A claim pushed dozens of times by Fox News that security forces were ordered to "stand down" during the September 11, 2012 Benghazi attacks on a U.S. diplomatic facility collapsed after the commander of those security forces testified that he received no such order.

Rick Perry's 3 Dumbest Comments on Teen Pregnancy | Mother Jones

In February, he blamed rising teen pregnancy rates on the fact that America had strayed from the core values exemplified by the Boy Scouts—something he feared would be exacerbated if the organization drifted from its morals and embraced openly gay members. The Boy Scouts advocate abstinence before marriage. Then again, so does the state of Texas—and all it has to show for it is the third-highest teen pregnancy rate in the nation.

4 Recent Supreme Court Rulings Show Which Way the Wind Is Blowing: Corporations Are Getting Whatever They Want | Alternet

Corporate America’s power and influence doesn’t just come from big-money campaign donations and lobbying campaigns. It also flows through the federal judiciary, which is why the U.S. Senate’s Republicans have prevented most of the White House’s judicial nominees from being seated—even though Obama’s nominees are predominantly centrist.
Take a look at Justice Ginsburg’s forceful dissents in most of these cases. They show what a far more reasonable judiciary could be like if there were more judges with civil rights backgrounds. But especially with the Supreme Court's 5-4 right-wing majority on a great many cases, the assault by big business and large corporations on ordinary people continues.

So-called IRS scandal is a charade orchestrated by  Darrell Issa

The Treasury inspector general (IG) whose report helped drive the IRS targeting controversy says it limited its examination to conservative groups because of a request from House Republicans.
A spokesman for Russell George, Treasury’s inspector general for tax administration, said they were asked by House Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) “to narrowly focus on Tea Party organizations.”
The inspector general’s audit found that groups seeking tax-exempt status with “Tea Party” and “patriots” in their name did receive extra attention from the IRS, with some facing years of delay and inappropriate questions from the agency.
But top congressional Democrats have wielded new information from the IRS this week that liberal groups were also flagged for extra attention on the sorts of “be on the lookout” lists (BOLOs) that also tripped up conservative groups.

So instead of a White House scandal, we now learn that it was a US House of Representatives scandal!  Smoke and mirrors to blame President Obama for another make believe scandal...

Are Americans As STUPID As Tea Party Republicans Think They Are?

It was mostly republicans who voted to renew FISA, and now they're expressing outrage and anger against President Obama for its usage. What a convenient case of amnesia they have...
